Cocktoberfest: Supernatural Sex

OK, so here’s the thing.  I really want to believe in werewolves, vampires and shifters in general.  Only the sexy ones, not the bad ones, unless they really have a good heart and can be changed by love.   I mean, think about it!

Werewolves are cool because they can shift between men and wolves.  When they turn into big, furry wolves, they are gorgeous, love to romp and are incredibly strong.  Most wolves are on the lookout for their mate, who they’ll know immediately because of their unique smell, targeted specifically at them.  Plus there’s the sexy, commanding Alpha who really has a heart of gold, and is an amazing leader with sensitivity and wisdom beyond his years.  When wolves shift back into men, they’ve got beautiful musculature, are in incredible shape because of all the running they do, and are usually well-hung both as man and wolf.  What’s not to like?

Werewolves became so popular that other supernatural shifters were introduced — panthers, lions, cougars, tigers, bears, coyotes, horses… the list goes on.  Some hang in packs, like the large cats, and some are lone animals needing to be loved, like bears.  These shifters have some of the same characteristics as the wolves:  Alphas and Betas, sculpted muscles, long lives, the search for their life mate, and being well-hung.

Then there are the vampires.  They are turned or born, and then stop aging at the peak of their development so that they’re always sexy, beautiful with long hair, glowing eyes, and the thirst for blood which will provide his lover with a stupendous orgasm.  Best of all, they want to find their one lover with whom they can spend eternity.  They’re incredibly strong, have supernatural powers, oh, and they’re usually well-hung, which goes along with the deep experience they’ve acquired learning to make love over the centuries.

You’re probably getting the theme here.  It seems that supernatural beings have one characteristic in common — the incredibly long, thick, beautiful cock, with the heavy, hanging balls.  Hairy or smooth, short or long, thick or thin, the penis is the piece de resistance!  Let’s face it, the cock is one of the first things checked out and the ultimate focus of the lovers, and supernaturals have it all in spades!

So I’ve been thinking about how we as authors can extend the supernatural family — all with supernatural  pricks, of course – to include other beings that readers would enjoy.  I’m leaning towards the shifters, as they’re much more interesting and there may be two different cultures to create or adapt.   I’ve read about a phoenix, and I’ve seen Greek/mythological gods (as well as made-up gods, like the God of Traffic), the Minotaur, and the son of Medusa (who had the same issues with snakes and stone).   Then there are the twinky kittens, the virginal pups, and the newly-turned innocents, which don’t really appeal to me – I like them Alpha and manly.  Who else can we dream up?

And, to me, the ultimate question is, would you want to meet a supernatural being?  What type?  And would you sleep with a shifter in animal form?  I’ve seen both yes and no in different stories.  Does it gross you out?  Turn you on?  Let’s chat!

I’m giving away a $10 Dreamspinner Press gift certificate to the most unique idea for a supernatural being.

I do Avians (shape-shifting birds) in my Little Goddess series– they’re kind of cool. I’m also a fan of sidhe (high elves)–they also seem to have enormous wandstuckers… lucky genetic accident, I guess!

  2. Jon Treadway says:

I love elves too, and forgot to mention my all-time favorites — dragons! How that slipped my mind, I have no idea…

  3. EM Lynley says:

I am pretty turned off by the idea of sex with a shifter in animal form though I hear some people have written it well and made it hot. I’m afraid to read it because you just cannot un-think some stuff.

As for what’s not been done much: I’m working on a gargoyle story right now. I can’t say any more than that. But it’s a creature that so far I haven’t seen in m/m, though I may be wrong about that.

  4. Jon Treadway says:

Yes, there is a series of stories around a gargoyle…I don’t have the names here but I can let you know tonight what they are. I believe that at least one is m/m, if not more.

  5. Jon Treadway says:

Oh, and I’ve read several stories around werewolves where the man changes into a wolf to “inseminate” his mate; the combination of the saliva in the bite and the “natural” semen jumpstarts the change in the human. The ones I’ve read have managed it tastefully, and the cock is of course larger in the animal form. Some animals, like the large cats, have some type of barb in the penis that latches on so that the fucker can’t pull out until it recedes back into it’s place. Laura Leigh does that with her cats (mostly het, so that the female can get pregnant) but I’ve seen it used in m/m too.

Reading back, I can’t believe what an authority I sound like! LOL Just all that reading I’ve done in the last 4 years or so…I looked at my library the other day because I moved all my ebooks onto a new external drive, and re-imported them into my Mobipocket reader. I have around 2,000 I think all told…although half are in PDF and half in PRC for my Kindle.

  7. London Hopes says:

I would love to meet a supernatural being… A shifter, a vamp, it doesn’t really matter to me. I love them all. I’m not sure about the other question though. If we’re talking half wolf/half man or something, then I would consider it. But in complete animal form, I doubt it.

A friend of mine is obsessed with dragons and we’d both love to read something where a character can shift into one.

  8. Jon Treadway says:

There are many stories with dragon shifters…most I’ve read are het. I know Changeling Press has some — there’s a series, I believe — that are m/m. I can’t check the site at work and I don’t remember the author but if you search it they’ll come up pretty quickly. They’re from 2009, I believe.

Lex Valentine’s Fire Season has m/m dragon shifters. 🙂

*fingers crossed this post gets through*

This is going to sound so lame, but most of my concerns would pretty much be exactly the same ones I'd have with nonsupernatural lovers: trust, of course, is a big deal, and in many a mythos, supernatural beings have agendas – hell, many of them have hobbies of having agendas.

But, assuming that I wasn't wandering my way into a horror-with-hot-sex, what would I like?

A pretty, playful, petite fae girl, I think. Maybe two, a girl and a boy. A pair of kinky vampires, maybe.

Werewolves don't leave me cold, but they don't set my blood boiling either. They seem more like they kind of being that'd be my buddy than my lover, now that I think about it. Would I sleep with them in animal form? Sure. But I wouldn't have sex with them in it.

That said, if I saw it in a story, would it gross me out? No, I don't think so. It wouldn't turn me on, either, but I think it would just feel sort of anthropological. Interesting in an educational sort of way. I like a well-built world.

(Actually, just writing all this is giving me ideas for writing…)

  11. AJ Llewellyn says:

I love shifters and this is an awesome blog, Jon. Congrats on the Surfer Boys antho story. You rock! A great supernatural shifter would be one that morphs into whatever fantasy man/woman/creature you desire and gives you a great time in the sack until you literally can’t take anymore.
    🙂

  12. Molly Church says:

Oh, AJ – if you’re still curious, I did answer your question, yesterday. It just didn’t show up for ages.

  13. Jon Treadway says:

Hey AJ! Thanks — can’t compete with porn, but what can? LOL That would be cool — a shifter on demand. Kind of like Sam in True Blood. He can be anything! I would want to be that shifter, actually, rather than be the one screwing him. Man, that would be so wicked — a dragon one day, a wolf the next, then whatever your lover wanted to try out. I guess I would eventually want to know if my lover loved me for me, though, rather than my talents so to speak.

    Did you get your package?

  14. Jon Treadway says:

Oh, Amy. I forgot about the birds. Frankly, they don’t turn me on at all. I remember reading a story about a small bird shifter. They would seem so fragile. Being able to fly, though, that would definitely be on my wish list. Hmm, the dragon is looking better all the time.

But I don’t see anything here that is different…my contest is to try to get you all brainstorming! LOL Come on, y’all, put on that thinking cap! You have a $10 gift card waiting for you from Dreamspinner Press!!

What about something like the Sphinx? Or, let’s see, ooh, a gryphen! That’s like a combo animal. Or Pegasus, although that’s like a horse with a little extra. Seems to me that all three of these would have the added benefit of really large cocks, too! Can’t go wrong there!

Gimme, gimme, gimme! It’s ultimately for the reader’s benefit, right? Something new, unusual and different.

  15. JL Merrow says:

I’m currently tidying up a novelette for submission that features Scottish wildcat shifters, which I haven’t seen anywhere before, although there are any number of other cat shifters out there, of course.

I’m not sure shifted sex with one of them would really work; they’re pretty similar in size to a domestic cat, so I’m thinking it’d be difficult and/or uncomfortable with one partner in human form. Plus, of course, you’ve really got to watch those claws! Imagine explaining that to the doctor when you went to get stitched up…

I have actually written human/wolf sex, and although I know it creeps some people out, I sort of feel it’s the person inside that’s important, not the shape they’re wearing. And (in the scene I wrote) it was an important emotional turning point for the character, in finally accepting his lover’s other form.

  16. Jon Treadway says:

JL, that does sound interesting! I remember reading a story about a wolf partnered with a calico house cat…that is odd to me. But Scottish wildcats sounds interesting! Is it already accepted or are you about to submit somewhere?

And I agree on the human/wolf sex. It doesn’t bother me as much as others, but I agree it has to be in context. Your scenario sounds hot!
