  1. I admit it…I voted for Bedknobs and & Beanstalks…

What can I say, I love alliteration.

    *hides*

For some reason I cant vote – blinking browser… so can I leave them here instead? My faves are:

    1. Once Upon a Prince
    2. Over the Rainbow
    3. Bedknobs and Beanstalks

  3. Lily says:

Great choices, I voted for my top 3 πŸ™‚

  4. Ali says:

    Great titles. I voted.

  5. Voted. Although “Once Upon a Prince” has a nice ring to it, it was my understanding that this anthology isn’t strictly gay male. “Bedtime Stories,” also a nice ring, but there is already a scads of erotica anthologies and collections by that name out there. The rest, eh.

I’m with the Alliteration Association. πŸ™‚

  6. Kyo says:

Ok. Here is my take on things. People need to consider CONTENT before naming something!

Bedknobs & Beanstalks is a good play on alliteration but it is too specific. The title implies that there HAS to be a Jack and the Beanstalk story in the anthology otherwise the beanstalk part of the title won’t make any sense. This title can be used if you pick one of the jack and the beanstalks story submissions you recieved.

I happen to love the title The Lovers Grimm but it has the same problem Bedknobs and Beanstalks has. It implies that all the stories in the anthology are linked to Grimms fairy tales though that may not be the case. Many fairy tales were not discovered by the Grimms brothers.

I think Rumpledsilksheets was extreamly well thought out and its my personal favourite among the list. But as with Bedknobs & Beanstalks as a reader I would be expecting at least one Rumplestiltskin strory in the anthology

The following titles are extreamly cliche and over used in literature:

    Ever After
    Bedtime Stories

They even have movies and it kind of limits the uniqueness of the book being published.

Once upon a Prince is a good title but it neglects to consider that this is an anthology of both gay and LESBIAN fiction and as such implies we will find only male\male stories in the anthology

Ironically I nearly submitted Ever After and Over the Rainbow myself but tossed both options due to them not being all that unique. Same goes for So over the rainbow and Under the Rainbow (That last one just sounds wrong)

That said I have just shot down some of my favourites in the list due to the fact that I would need to consider the content of the anthology before naming it. If all the fairy tales are based on Grims fairy tales I’d go with The Lovers Grimm

    • EM Lynley says:

These are good points. There IS a Jack & the beanstalk story going in. Not sure yet on Rumplestiltskin.

Most of the stories are based on Grimm tales but not all. I don’t think it needs to be exclusively those to make that title work.

Yes, some of the titles have been used but I wanted to see whether people liked them or not.

      Thanks for the comments, Kyo!

  7. Kyo says:

Personally I hate the beanstalk title. I like the Bedknobs part of it but not the beanstalk part of it. Probably because I am very sick of Jack and The beanstalk as a story. Saw WAY too many versions of it as a kid and didn’t think it was all that great as a fairy tale to begin with so Im jaded on that front. Out of all of them it is the one I like the least but it looks like its going to win πŸ˜›

    • EM Lynley says:

The beanstalk story is hilarious and really well done. i doubt you’ve read anything like this one, ever. i laughed so hard when i was reading it!

  8. Kyo says:

LOL… Ok. I’ll take your word for it πŸ˜€ but will remain sceptical until I read it. It brings to mind jimminy cricket to me… there was a disney story that mixed real cinematography with animation and that’s what I remember every time I think of Jack and the beanstalk.

  9. Randy says:

Full disclosure: having been both an editor and publication designer, I suffer from practicality, which admittedly can interfere with fun.

Lust Upon a Time works best for me, and here’s why: It’s totally inclusive, even of creatures that may not be fully human. It plays well on the classic fairy-tale opening. It’s the only one of the titles that outright says “sex” (if I’m not mistaken, that’s a big point here marketing-wise even though romance may be the primary concern). The cover designer will love it because of the flexibility short words allow. Likewise, it does not limit the kind of steamy artwork that can be used. It’s generically sexy but fairy-tale specific.

Moving on… I love alliteration too. I don’t know what the hell a bedknob is, but even so, it does sound naughty. If there’s a great beanstalk story, then Bedknobs & Beanstalks is cool. Will some be offended by the phallic implications of a beanstalk title? This title kind of limits the potential artwork, but if the publisher can come up with a sexy beanstalk scenario, more power to them.

Rumpledsilksheets is alluring in its cleverness. Requires a Rumpelstiltskin story, of course. But I’ll put money on a cover designer running the other way when he/she sees that one!

  10. Kyo says:

@Randy: Old fashioned beds would have four legs that extend over the bed itself (not only go down to the floor but go up as well in order to create a headboard and footboard). These pieces would have a round ball finishing it off. This round piece is called a bedknob

  11. Voted as well. About the Beanstalk title, though, alliteration is cute, but it isn’t everything. Other titles on the list are smarter and more interesting – like Rumpledsilksheets for example (note that I didn’t submit that one). Also, Randy: phallic implications of beanstalks? *head desk. It probably does have phallic implications, but totally bad imagery there :P.

  12. Pia Veleno says:

I guess I’m the odd man out. The Beanstalk alliteration doesn’t do it for me at all, but Once Upon a Prince… now that conjurs up steamy images. Excuse me, Muse is suddenly calling… πŸ˜‰

  13. Kyo says:

Just for Scarlet! Since Alliteration seems to be the order of the day here. How about a few more crazy ideas? LOL. NOTE: NOT FOR THE RUNNING… just for the hell of it πŸ˜€ (Yes this is what poor souls trapped in forced overtime at work get up to when their brains officially fry… 11 hour working days for near on two months with no compensation SUCK!)

Anyway, here are my crazy titles… I’m tempted to try to come up with one for every letter of the alphabet but will leave that for another day :D) I tried to incorporate either the word fairy or tale into most of these… Mwahahahahahahaha. Oh and stole enchanted’s movie title to fool around with. The last one on the other hand… I just couldnt resist. My mind started wandering down a route I just KNOW it should not be taking.

Fairy Fabulous (This on is just so pink LOL :P)
Fairy Fables (Technically speaking there is a difference between fairy tales and fables but who cares :D)
    Enchanted Evermore
Tall Tales (Oh what lies do we tell :D)
    Tantalising Tales (Yummy)
Tit for Tat (Now HERE’S a dodgy one. (Scrapes mind from the gutter and hence I prove some alliteration should just be left alone :P)

  14. Randy says:

Heaven forbid that this should become a forum for what might have been titlewise LOL, but the fairy tales I really want to see messed with are the ones Hans Christian Andersen wrote, much more innocent and uplifting than those by the Grimms. It briefly occurred to me to submit “Hans Christian Andersen Never Slept Here… But Everyone Else Did!”

  15. Kyo says:

@Randy: Ooo I really like that one. Its brilliant. You should have submitted it πŸ˜€

I found a lot of Hans christian andersons tales to be rather sad actually. For example, his version of “Ther little mermaid” is not nearly as happy as Disney’s version. The little mermaid dies without ever obtaining her love though she does obtain a soul. I can’t say that was uplifting. It made me want to cry πŸ™

  16. I loved Rumpledsilksheets and if you don’t have a Rumpelstiltskin story, I know I could come up with one!

In fact, hmmmm, that spinning wheel…

  17. I loved the titles! All of them are so good.

  18. Ryan Field says:

I voted for Gaily Ever After. I had an older gay friend who always used the same line whenever we were in the car. If you said, “Go straight,” he’d say, “Not straight…go gaily forward.”

  19. EM Lynley says:

    Ryan–love that story!

Wow, everyone, I’m so thrilled you’re having such fun with the voting and debate!

  20. Kilt says:

I have to say, even though it’s not mine, I love “Rumpledsilksheets.” I think Kyo made some really good points re: all my favorite choices being overused, so now I’m officially rooting for “Bedknobs & Beanstalks”!

    When does the contest end?

    xo

  21. Still rooting for Rumpledsilksheets. πŸ˜€ I am now officially curious when we will know the results *grin.

  22. EM Lynley says:

I’ll be closing the poll at some point on Wednesday, after I’ve given people a chance to see the posts about voting.

  23. judie stewart says:

I like Rumpledsilksheets the best because I love to see what great and hot mess I maid in those silk sheets!

  24. Gaynor says:

My favorite has to be ‘Once Upon A Prince’ closely followed by ‘Rumplesilksheets’, then ‘Lust Upon A Time’.

    All are wonderful titles!

  25. Lisa Perry says:

Great choices, Bedknobs and Beanstalks was one of my votes too, but i LOVE Rumpledsilksheets… how great is that!
